Emersyn's Room Revamp

I am so thrilled with how Emersyn's room turned out! We went from the original purple color that her room was when we bought it to something she loves and was able to help me complete!

I started off by priming the entire room. The color purple was so deep that I didn't want to risk wasting paint to cover three+ layers. For the top of half of the room I used Benjamin Moore - Chantilly Lace. It's the same white we have in out kitchen and I like the cool undertones.

This was the first time I attempted board and batten, so it took a bit of practice and math to figure out how exactly I wanted the boards spaced out to look the best. I started with a base point of 16" apart. After doing the math of the surface area of the walls divided by 16" apart, I calculated the amount of vertical "battens" we would need. We went to Lowe's and bought primed 11/16th" x 2 1/2" x 8ft boards and had them all cut in half at Lowes to make 4ft length. Easier to transport and visualize in her room. We also purchased 1x4" wood for the top board and 1x6" for the new baseboard.

I looked at the big picture once we had purchased the wood and played around with the placement of the battens. I decided to place them evenly around her window and work backwards from there. I used a pencil to mark the center where I wanted the boards to go so I didn't have to worry about it later.

First we installed the top board (1x4). To do that, find how high you want your board and batten to be. We wanted it to be a little less than half of her room which was about 61" from the ceiling. ** NOTE: to make it easy on yourself, make sure you don't run into the light switches with your final decision. Using a chalk line or a laser, make a straight line across the wall. Before you nail the wood in, double check with your level that the wood is even. Cut 45º angles at the corners to make then flush. Using your nail gun, install the top board into the studs. This is the cordless NAIL GUN I have.

Next, install the new baseboard (1x6") Make sure that you use your level to make sure everything is staying even!Cut 45º angles at the corners to make then flush.
From there, measure and cut your battens to size. Cut up to three at a time and remeasure often! Believe it or not, the spaces are SO uneven and you want to make sure they fit snug. Install with your nail gun. It went pretty quickly at this point because it was on repeat.
Measure, Cut, Install.

When I stumbled across this paint color, I knew that HAD to be the color. She wanted pink but that can be tricky. I didn't want pepto bismol pink and I didn't want it to be nursery pink either. I LOVE this color and would highly recommend it! BENJAMIN MOORE - SOUTHERN COMFORT. Not too pink, not too mauve.

I tried to utilize what we already had as far as decor goes. We went with whimsical/ Anthro vibes and I found most of what I needed at TJMAXX.COM Including her duvet and pink throw pillow.

I'll link what I can find below, but I did want to note that I purchased new blackout curtains in white and they are a GAME CHANGER!
